PriRecos — Somalia Market Intelligence & Entry Advisory

Entering Somalia is difficult. We make it investable.

Market intelligence and entry advisory for Somalia

PriRecos is an independent advisory firm providing market intelligence, entry support, and transaction facilitation for companies and organizations evaluating opportunities in Somalia's economy, predominantly across the resources and infrastructure sectors. Our clients are institutional investors, operators, development finance institutions, and trading houses who are weighing whether a Somali opportunity deserves their capital and attention.

Somalia represents a frontier market with significant opportunities, but successful entry requires local knowledge, trusted relationships, and careful execution. Public information about the country is thin, often outdated, and frequently written either to attract investment or to discourage it. Neither extreme helps a company make a decision. Our role is to close that gap with grounded, verifiable research so that a decision to proceed, or a decision to walk away, rests on evidence rather than optimism.

We help companies discover whether an opportunity is worth pursuing, before capital is committed. That distinction matters. We are not a broker with an inventory of deals to place. We are the party a company engages to understand what is genuinely viable, under what conditions, on what timeline, and at what cost.

What we do

Market intelligence

Sector research, opportunity screening, regulatory analysis, and local market mapping. We document how a sector actually operates: who the credible counterparties are, which licences exist and which are aspirational, where infrastructure genuinely constrains throughput, and what comparable ventures have achieved or failed to achieve. Where data is unreliable or missing, we say so rather than filling the gap with assumptions.

Entry support

Partner identification, government engagement, stakeholder coordination, and local representation. Entering Somalia is rarely blocked by a single obstacle. More often it stalls because a company lacks a trusted local counterpart, misreads which authority holds a decision, or underestimates the coordination required between federal and member state institutions. We manage that groundwork and represent client interests consistently over time.

Transaction facilitation

Joint venture structuring, project development support, and investor and operator matching. For clients who decide to proceed, we help convert an assessment into a working arrangement: identifying the right partner, structuring terms that survive contact with local conditions, and supporting the project through to operation.

Sectors under research coverage

We maintain active coverage across four sectors. Read the full detail on our sector coverage page.

Agriculture and arable land

Irrigation viability, land tenure reality, input supply chains, and export routes across the Jubba and Shabelle river basins. Land tenure is the question that most often decides whether an agricultural venture is financeable, and it is the question least well answered by public sources.

Mining and mineral resources

The licensing pathway, geological data quality, infrastructure constraints, and the credible operator landscape. Much of the geological record dates from surveys conducted decades ago, so we are explicit about what is confirmed versus what is inferred.

Blue economy and marine resources

Licensing mechanics, cold chain and port reality, catch data, and the commercial fishing landscape along mainland Africa's longest coastline. Somalia's marine potential is frequently cited; the operational constraints that determine whether it can be captured are rarely examined with the same enthusiasm.

Hydrocarbons and offshore energy

The offshore licensing framework, seismic data availability, and the practical timeline to any activity. This sector attracts the most speculative commentary, and it is where honest timelines matter most.

How we engage

Engagements begin with a conversation, not a commitment. Introductory calls, market conversations, and research publications are provided at no cost, because a company should be able to establish whether we are useful before paying us anything. Scoped work follows: market assessments, entry strategy, due diligence, and partner search, each defined in advance with a clear deliverable. Where a transaction completes, a success fee applies, and on selected projects we participate directly.

We will tell a client when an opportunity is not worth pursuing. An advisory firm that only ever confirms what a client hopes to hear provides no information at all. Our value depends on that judgment being reliable in both directions. You can review the full process on our about page, or request access to the partner channel used during active engagements.

Independence and standing

PriRecos is a private sector advisory firm, not a government body. We work alongside Somali government institutions, and licensing and approvals remain the responsibility of the relevant ministry in every case. We do not present ourselves as holding authority we do not have, and we do not offer access we cannot substantiate.

The firm is based in Mogadishu, which is deliberate. Research conducted at a distance tends to reproduce the same secondary sources that already circulate. Being present is what allows us to verify a claim, meet a counterparty, and form a view that is worth paying for.

If you are evaluating Somalia and want an honest read on what is and is not viable, request a market briefing. If a briefing is a fit we will propose a scope, and if we cannot help we will say so. You can also return to the homepage for an overview of the practice.
